f.l.t.r: City talk host Dr. Andreas Zippel (second mayor of the city of Bayreuth) with the speakers Prof. Arlt and Prof. Brüggemann

This was the topic of discussion between BayBatt member Prof. Dr. Marie-Louise Arlt (Junior Professorship for Information Systems Research, in particular on Connected Energy Storage) and Prof. Dr. Dieter Brüggemann (Chair of Engineering Thermodynamics and Transport Processes, Zentrum für Energietechnik) at the most recent edition of the Bayreuth city talks on 2 April, 2025.

The large audience showed that topics relating to energy supply and the energy industry continue to be highly relevant to society. We hope that this town talk was able to answer the citizens' open questions and provide insights into the innovative approaches and research projects at the University of Bayreuth.

In their presentation, the two speakers discussed the necessity of energy storage solutions for a successful energy transition and showed the benefits that this would bring for renewable energy producers (households, industry and commerce). They then discussed the advantages and disadvantages of batteries and hydrogen as storage options.
