First job advertisement in the joint Hilti-BayBatt PhD programme
25.02.2025
As part of the recently concluded research and development cooperation between the University of Bayreuth and the Hilti Group from Liechtenstein, the first joint doctoral position has now been advertised. The position is based at the Chair of Electrical Energy Systems and the Bavarian Centre for Battery Technology and involves work on the next generation of lithium-ion and post-lithium batteries. Together with Hilti, the doctoral candidate will drive the transformation from cable-connected to battery-powered power tools.
The jointly advertised position offers the opportunity to combine a scientific career with a practical doctorate and pave the way for a professional future in a leading global company. Following the 18-month employment at the University of Bayreuth, a permanent full-time position at Hilti in Kaufering is intended.
The doctoral project involves identifying the most critical failure mechanisms of a lithium-ion cell relevant to Hilti. Based on their own findings, the doctoral candidate will develop an algorithm for online detection of these states and validate it at pack level (prototype). The work includes the use of state-of-the-art tools such as MATLAB/Simulink and C as well as a proof of concept at system level.
