We're delighted to welcome Prof. Dr. Vedran Perić as a new member of BayBatt. Since 1 October 2024, Prof. Perić holds the Chair for Intelligent Energy Management at the Faculty of Engineering Science. Prior to this, he gained a lot of international experience in the field of energy management:

After completing his master's degree in electrical engineering at the University of Novi Sad, Serbia, he moved to the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, for his doctorate. He then worked for several companies in the energy and software sector, including in Edinburgh, Scotland, and Munich. There he dealt with various challenges of the energy transition. In 2019, he began his academic career as a group leader at the Centre for Combined Smart Energy Systems (CoSES) at the Technical University of Munich, while also teaching as a guest lecturer at the Deggendorf Institute of Technology. Most recently, he was Associate Professor at the Aarhus University, Denmark.

At the University of Bayreuth, Perić is looking forward to working with the numerous outstanding research centres such as BayBatt: ‘BayBatt is at the forefront of battery research. This research topic fits very well within the scope of energy management, where we plan to create a software platform that relies on artificial intelligence and other advanced control methods to maximize the utilization of energy assets such as batteries. Our goal is to transform the current energy sector into a fully digitalized, autonomous system that supplies customers with clean and affordable energy’, says Perić.

His new Chair of Intelligent Energy Management at the University of Bayreuth is set to play a globally recognised leading role in the field of energy management research. Perić wants to base this goal on three pillars: excellent research with numerous collaborations, the training of a new generation of leaders for the energy transition, and the creation of a knowledge hub that connects industry, politics, university and the public.
